Mr Nicholas E.W. Wright: appointed as a Trustee on 15th February 1976. A Trustee from the beginning, Nicholas served as the Trust’s Chairman for many years

The Board generally meets four times per year, usually in March, June, September and December.

Governance

The Steel Charitable Trust is a grant-giving trust, registered as an unincorporated charity with the Charity Commission for England and Wales as number 272384. The purpose of The Steel Charitable Trust is to award grants to applicant charities that are registered in the United Kingdom.

The Trustees work on a voluntary basis and encompass different skills and areas of experience. The Trustees are committed to equality, diversity and inclusion both in the way the Trust is governed and in respect of its stakeholders, including the charities to which grants are awarded.

Financial information is available to view in the Trust’s Annual Report and Accounts. The Steel Charitable Trust reviews its strategy approximately every five years. 2025 is the pilot year of a new grant-making strategy targeted to two focal points: Luton and its inhabitants, and young people elsewhere in the United Kingdom.

Administration

The Trust employs a Director, Isla Stanger, supported by self-employed certified accountant, Nick Panayi, as Financial Controller.
