Last updated 4 March 2026
The Steel Charitable Trust is not currently open for new applications.
In 2026, the Trust will continue to make grants in the region of £1.5m under the following headings:
- Luton Matters – projects and programmes that provide positive benefit to Luton, its residents and charitable organisations
- opportunities for children and young people, under the age of 26, in the rest of the UK
A handful of new Luton grants were awarded at the Trustees’ March 2026 meeting. However, owing to the award of many Luton Matters multi-year grants in 2025 under the Trust’s new model, there will be no more grants for new applicants to to this programme in 2026. Expressions of Interest will be taken around October 2026 for potential progress through the process to an award in March 2027. This is likely to be a short window of opportunity to apply. Please check the Grants menu from time to time for updates and access to the Expression of Interest form.
Owing to a continued high number of applications for the Under-26 programme in 2025, applications from new applicants for this programme in 2026 will be by invitation only. Trustees continue to review how best to proceed with this programme in future years. Please do not contact the Trust requesting an invitation.
